Dear Alma Fuerte Families;
We hope you are staying safe and healthy. As you have probably already heard, State Superintendent Thurman and Governor Newsom announced that schools would remain closed for the rest of the school year and more emphasis is to be put on distance and at home learning.
First of all, please know that WE MISS YOU ALL. It is amazing how much a couple of minutes in a car line or a quick good morning can do to make the day brighter and we look forward to getting back to that as soon as possible. In the meantime we will be trying to serve our most important assets – your children - the best that we can. We want you to know that the next few weeks will not be easy. There will be mistakes, problems and concerns along the way. However, we are the Alma Fuerte family – we are strong, we are resilient and we will persevere.
We are going to do our best to provide schoolwork to keep our students’ minds engaged and moving forward. We will make adjustments as needed and we will support you and your child as much as is required. Please reach out to us if you require assistance. I will be having standing office hours and virtual meetings to keep you all informed and receive input as we plan for next year.
With regard to next year, we would like to share some exciting news. We will have exclusive use of the main building – more classrooms, washrooms and the lobby!! This will allow us to make many changes and make the campus more safe and secure.
Again, we understand how challenging this time is for you and we know that we are asking a lot from you to care for and support your children in a home-based school program. Our teachers will work hard and will work with you to ensure this time away from school is valuable, educational, and full of opportunity to do things a bit differently. Please know we will continue to communicate with you weekly. Information will also be available on our website and Facebook pages.
Laurilie Keay and the Alma Fuerte Team
