In order to promote and reward good attendance we've created the Alma Fuerte Attendance Heroes Program.
A H.E.R.O. Must be :
Here
Everyday
Ready
On Time
Teachers marks student's name on a daily basis to visually represent whether they have been a HERO for that week. At the end of the week, students who had perfect attendance receive a HERO Coin which will afford them Super Powers on Super Hero Day.
Super Hero Day will take place on the last week of school. It will be a carnival style event in which students will get to make and wear their superhero costumes as well as participate in fun activities.
I've created a Pinterest Board with some ideas of what that day can look like: https://www.pinterest.com/almafuertepublicschool/attendance-heroes/
I need some help planning it, who can help?!

FYI - Students with excused absences will still be able to get coins, so long as parents can provide a doctor's note by Friday of each week!
An excused absence is only with a doctor's note?
Hi Rachel, Ultimately what we need is proof of a valid excused absence. Notes from parents count in the case of illness because we understand that students don't always go to the doctor but we cannot excuse absences/ tardies for things like vacation or car trouble even with a note.
Hi Adriani! Here's recap of some of the ideas we discussed in our meeting last week. If you were at the meeting on this committee, and/or have additional ideas, please chime in!
1. The opportunity to connect Super Hero day to the AF entrepreneurship school philosophy. Perhaps students can "create" their own superhero. This would encourage entrepreneurial style thinking, creativity and follow through. They can decide what their name will be, what their costume will look like, what powers they will have and how they will do good in the world. Maybe they could begin by drawing a picture of it?
2. What materials we would need to create an obstacle course, as well as other activities, such as ring toss, lock game, etc. Green/environmentally friendly/repurposed items when possible.
3. What materials kids would need to make their costumes. Green/environmentally friendly/repurposed items when possible. Ideas included capes, masks, wrist bands, helmets, wings, magic carpets, no weapons.
Thank you so much Lindsay! Here are some needs that I hope people can volunteer for:

I have tons of cardboard boxes I can donate to make shields, or brick walls, or whatever :)
I have cardboard boxes I can donate as well!
I have some outdoor kids' paint that also (apparently) works on asphalt. I can bring it this week and we can test. Maybe we can use this for the obstacle course.
@Lindsay That sounds like it could be a great way to outline the obstacle course!
I can volunteer.
Hi I can get some glitter and volunteer. Quick question though- what about the kids who don’t have great attendance? Do they get to participate? Also, how can we find out if our kids qualify for super hero status? Thanks
