Ms. Krabbendam's Weekly Highlights

The Three Billy Goats Gruff!

We’ve been practicing retelling familiar stories and identifying the main idea of a story. This week our class used The Three Billy Goats Gruff to practice! Instead of just reading the book this week, students acted out the story and watched a puppet show retelling of the book! Our class worked very hard to create their main idea posters for the book! Check out our work in our hallway next week!

Martin Luther King Jr. Activities!

Our class spent time this week talking about Martin Luther King Jr. and how important he is as we approach January 20th! We watched a video, read stories, and created our own mini books to learn about who he was and what he did for our country. Students reviewed adjectives by creating an adjective web to describe Martin Luther King Jr.

Our favorite activity was the egg demonstration. We saw how eggs that looked different on the outside, were the same on the inside. We discussed how Martin Luther King Jr. wanted all people to be treated equally because it’s not what’s on the outside that is important, but what’s on the inside that counts!

Fun With Phonics!

Our class LOVES to play games! One of our class favorites is called “Swat the Word”. This week we played Swat the Word to practice sight words, our new sounds, and review previously learned sounds! It’s a great way for all students to have fun while learning! This is a great game to play at home, especially with very active kids! All you need are two fly swatters and a blank space to write or put up a variety of words!
