Sean Markin called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm. There was no public comment.
II. Calendar for 2017-2018 School Year
The Board discussed the current calendar for the 2017-2018 school year. Anne presented a proposal from staff to shorten the school year by one week, reducing the school year from 195 to 190 school days. Factors discussed included the preferences to improve the attendance rate and align more closely with the Pasadena USD’s calendar to minimize absences. Board members also discussed the feasibility of connecting families to camps and other enrichment opportunities during the first week of summer when school was originally to have been in session.
Sean moved to approve the modification of the school year calendar to end on June 15th; Melanie seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously after a roll call vote.
III. Closed Session: Public Employment: Academic Director (Government Code §54957). The Board convened a closed session at 6:18pm. The Board adjourned into open session at 8pm. Sean reported that the Board acted in closed session to authorize Anne to make an offer of employment as Academic Director one of the two finalists discussed in closed session.
