Grief Sensitive Schools Pasadena

Alma Fuerte's goal is to bring out the entrepreneur in each child by developing their critical thinking skills, leadership ability, and fostering their unique creativity. We are a small, tight-knit and diverse community located in Pasadena, CA. All classes are capped at 25 students and have an aide.
We are currently enrolling TK-8 for the 2025-2026 school Year.

We are fortunate to report that Alma Fuerte’s campus was unaffected by the recent fires. While we briefly closed for a deep cleaning, we quickly stayed connected with our families through phone calls, text messages, field trips, and Zoom. As soon as it was safe, we reopened our doors.
Though many of our families and staff have been displaced by the fires, we're pleased to share that the majority of them have been able to stay enrolled at Alma Fuerte.

Our counselors and staff are dedicated to being extra mindful of our students' social-emotional well-being during this time.
Our weekly SEL workshops, provided by DARE, continue to be a success. Recently, they’ve focused on problem-solving and decision-making, giving students valuable tools to navigate challenges. We’re also grateful for our ongoing partnership with the LA Department of Mental Health that hosts workshops for parents.

Alma Fuerte’s charter renewal process is moving forward smoothly. On January 28th, 2025 the LACOE board visited our school and were impressed by how quickly we were able to bring students back to campus. On February 11th, Ms. Keay, Ms. Adriani, and Ms. Muñoz, along with students, parents, and staff, presented our charter petition to LACOE. Then, on February 26th, we attended a capacity hearing, where LACOE’s finance staff commended us for having “the most efficient use of funds” they had ever seen! This means that Alma Fuerte will not be making any cuts to funding or programming.

At Alma Fuerte, our approach to learning and accessing curriculum includes:

  1. A Personalized Approach – Alma Fuerte takes your child’s strengths, needs, and interests into consideration. Then teachers provide the support they need to truly master a subject at the highest standards.

  2. Collaborative Learning – With small class sizes and different approaches to learning (like project-based learning, multiple modalities, learning styles), children are encouraged to work closely together to solve problems.

  3. Self-Directed Learning Opportunities – Alma Fuerte values your child’s interests and opinions, encouraging deeper thought.  We are helping to prepare them to have the skills and attitude necessary to be successful once they leave school.

  4. Personal Growth – Alma Fuerte emphasizes social emotional learning (SEL). SEL teaches students to understand and manage their emotions, establish and maintain positive relationships, feel and show empathy, set and achieve goals, and make responsible decisions.
