STEAM

Alma Fuerte is committed to creating the next generation of innovators and change-makers. Through STEAM, we are inspiring...

At Alma Fuerte, our approach to learning and accessing curriculum includes:

  1. A Personalized Approach – Alma Fuerte takes your child’s strengths, needs, and interests into consideration. Then teachers provide the support they need to truly master a subject at the highest standards.

  2. Collaborative Learning – With small class sizes and different approaches to learning (like project-based learning, multiple modalities, learning styles), children are encouraged to work closely together to solve problems.

  3. Self-Directed Learning Opportunities – Alma Fuerte values your child’s interests and opinions, encouraging deeper thought.  We are helping to prepare them to have the skills and attitude necessary to be successful once they leave school.

  4. Personal Growth – Alma Fuerte emphasizes social emotional learning (SEL). SEL teaches students to understand and manage their emotions, establish and maintain positive relationships, feel and show empathy, set and achieve goals, and make responsible decisions.  We have recently become a grief education school.

Enrichment

On Wednesdays, our minimum day, all students rotate through the following weekly electives:

  • Dance

  • Art

  • Entrepreneurship

  • Gardening

  • Spanish

What are our parents saying?

Administration

It's a nice campus with lots of space. The campus is located in a quiet residential neighborhood nestled just beneath the foothills. The parent community is very active. The classes are very small! I love getting weekly, very personal detailed e-mail updates about what the kids are doing in their classroom! The teachers and teaching assistants are so sweet, yet so skilled, and demand excellence from your students. The administration works hard together to put so many activities on the table for all the parents and students to participate in! There is good collaboration between parents and administration! I love the principal, she is a good person, a very dedicated person and I know this will be a great year!

This school develops strong character in its students, like integrity, compassion and respect. They emphasize compassion, respect, and learning from one another. I like that they focus individually on the child building their skills in social-emotional and academic learning, as well as the school overall is committed to diversity, inclusion, respect, excellence, learning, and having fun.

Values

We love Alma Fuerte! This is a school that challenges my son in all the right ways.
This school has an effective approach to homework. TK/and Kindergarten homework is a good mix of academic skills and simple connection young kids thrive on. Practicing skills like counting, but in the form of something like counting the spoons in the kitchen.

Teachers at this school are effective.
Wonderful teachers challenge my son while building a relationship with him—really seeing him for who he is and helping him grow academically and relationally.

This school develops strong character in its students, like integrity, compassion and respect. This is a high priority for a school working toward contributing, innovative entrepreneurs.

Leadership at this school is effective.
Good response time and willingness to discuss ideas.

Homework

The school is not only a Public Charter School, it's very small and tight knit. The parents and staff interact a lot and have a lot of say in what things are do and in the actual planning of school events. The staff and teachers are very skilled. The parents are very caring and involved. I feel like it's a family... Really glad I'm part of the school and that my little one has the opportunity to attend this charter school. Many of the other schools are a lot more impersonal with much larger classrooms and infrastructure. At Alma Fuerte, you get a feel that you are part of the planning the family, as many parents are, and the staff are so receptive to parent input! There are lots of opportunities to get involved here! I think thats most important that the kids see you are intimately involved with the school and Alma Fuerte is ripe ground for being involved as a parent in this way, if you so choose.

This school has an effective approach to homework. They design the homework so it's fun for the kids, and at the same time they it's positive motivation to get them into a habit setting aside time each night of working on homework
